Indian Idol one of the popular shows in india has worked for finding a talented singer. It has already found some great singers from different parts of India.
24 years old, Prashant Tamang one of the participent of Indian idol 3 has come from Tungsung village a beautiful place with high mountains in Darjeeling. He was in the Special Armed Force and has been working with the Kolkata police since 2002. He has been singing since childhood, but has never had any formal training.
He sings in the police orchestra. He wants to become the Indian Idol to prove himself and make the Kolkata police proud.
He is a Nepalese language speaker and that is why the people of Nepalese origin in India and Nepal consider him their own Idol. Although he works as a Sepoy with Kolkata police, his main fan base is in Darjeeling and whole Nepal.I personally like him a lot, and always pray for his vistory. In Darjeeling, a campaign is going on to vote for him and make him the winner of Indian Idol 3.

The Nepalese daily detailed how Darjeeling's ethnic Nepalese community was charged up to support Tamang. A photograph showed a signature campaign with Tamang's 78-year-old grandmother Sanjeevani Tamang scrawling on the huge banner.
Taxis in Darjeeling are carrying photographs of the smiling Tamang, while schools, clubs and even the local police are asking people to support the Buddhist singer, the report said.
"I voted for Prashant eight times last night," Tara Kumar, a resident of Darjeeling, said on Friday. "I am sure he will make it big."
A banner put up by Darjeeling Police said, "Prashant Tamang, the first ethnic Nepali Indian to have gone past the elimination round is our prestige."
Some people in Darjeeling are now planning to encourage everyone there to vote for Prashant Tamang. They have even formed a committee and are working tirelessly for him. Of course, I believe that Prashant Tamang has a nice voice.

“While we could not send text messages through Aircel, Reliance agents here did not have enough refill vouchers in the town. If people turn ‘sentimental’ in the event of Prashant losing at the competition, the operators will themselves have to face the consequences,” Tenzing Khambachay, the Darjeeling municipality ward commissioner, had said before the voting results were announced today. Khambachay is heading an informal committee, formed to urge residents to vote for Tamang.
The residents have even accused Reliance and Aircel of “conspiring” against them and alleged that “their act almost snuffed out the hill’s Indian Idol hope”.
“We hope they will co-operate with us in the next voting rounds,” Khambachay said.
A representative of one of the accused cellphone service providers, however, said the problem was over and the vouchers would now be available. “Our vouchers had run out of stock from a few areas, but we have replenished them. It will not be a problem anymore,” said a Reliance executive from Siliguri.
